Samsung The Wall: Only a few days back, I was planning to buy a new TV for home and obviously, we had several discussions around it. The biggest talking point was what should be the ideal size. We thought that about 50 inched would be fine for a living room. Samsung probably disagrees! The reason behind this could well be that it has introduced India's largest-ever LED display. Named The Wall, the microLED display by Samsung comes in three sizes and is priced up to a jaw-dropping Rs 12 crore!

Even if you opt for the cheapest model, it would still cost you Rs 3.5 crore. So, clearly this isn't everyone's cup of tea. Nevertheless, it is another brave attempt by the South Korean electronics giant just like its foldable smartphone - Galaxy Fold. We recently visited the Samsung office and spent some time with The Wall and here is a quick look at what's special about this display. Please, don't call it TV, they entreated! 

What is a MicroLED display?

Samsung has been known for making high-quality Quantum dot Light Emitting Diode (QLED) displays and had unveiled The Wall at CES 2018. The microLED display has finally been brought to India in three sizes - 146-inch, 219-inch and 292-inch. It is quite similar to the OLED displays and uses self-illuminating microscopic light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The only difference is that a microLED panel uses inorganic material instead of organic films. It allows this screen to offer more brightness.

Better Picture Quality

With The Wall, Samsung aims to offer better picture quality to viewers. The 146-inch model comes with 4K video quality, 219-inch model offers 6K video quality support while the 292-inch model has support for 8K videos. There is no doubt that this is a gigantic screen and even if you get better video quality, you need a really big room or hall to install this screen.

Samsung has also used technologies like Quantum Processor Flex and Black Seal to enhance the visuals. Quantum Processor Flex is a machine learning-based picture quality engine that analyzes image data to improve low-resolution image according to the display. This means that you can view old images in better quality on the Wall.

The Black Seal technology, meanwhile, produces deeper blacks. Samsung has also used Chroma Max Technology for better colors.

A major highlight of the Wall is that it offers up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness which is a makes a lot of difference while streaming content and playing games on a bigger screen. Also, The Wall comes with 120Hz video refresh rate while most other screens in India are still offering 60Hz screen refresh rate.

Changes into Digital Canvas

In case you are worried that The Wall will occupy a lot of space in your living room and might look odd when not in use, Samsung has taken care of that. It has used an 'Ambient Mode' on this display which converts the screen into a digital canvas when not in use. This allows you to use the display as a live wallpaper or a huge photo frame.

Privacy Taken Care of

To give better privacy, Samsung has added tablet control to The Wall. While you can continue to complete basic tasks with the help of remote, the entire control can be accessed only through a tablet.

Samsung has installed The Wall at its office in Gurugram. If you want to purchase it, you can book a private viewing session for the same. However, it won't be available at the retail stores.
