The Chinese technology firm Xiaomi is gearing up to introduce an entry-level smartphone, Redmi S2, in India as well as in its homeland. According to inputs from @FunkyHuawei, the new budget smartphone will come with dual rear cameras and Face Unlock feature. The dual rear cameras will reportedly be a combination of 12MP Sony IMX486 or 12MP OmniVision OV12A10 primary sensor and 5MP Samsung S5K5E8 as secondary lens. The front camera will also support ‘Portrait’ mode and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS). The new device is expected to make a debut in India and China, but the launch date is not confirmed. Some reports, however, say Xiaomi may launch it next week.  
 
According to gsmarena.com, Xiaomi Redmi S2 will boast of features like an 18:9 aspect ratio LCD display, with screen having a resolution of 1440×720 pixels. Xiaomi is expected to introduce 18:9 aspect ratio display as standard in of all upcoming offering, including budget smartphones. 
 
The Redmi S2 will also be powered by a Snapdragon 625 chipset, used in the Redmi Note 5, and will run Android 8.1 Oreo, besides having 16 GB of storage on board with a microSD slot to expand the memory. 
 
The new device will pack a 3080 mAh battery, offering solid battery life with the 14 nm chipset.
 
It may be noted that Xiaomi, which is the largest smartphone seller in India, launched Redmi 5 flash sales and the handsets were sold like hot cakes. Redmi 5 is available in three variants with price range of Rs 7,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999. It comes with 2GB Ram +16GB storage option at Rs 7,999; 3GB RAM + 32GB storage at Rs 8,999; and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant at Rs 10,999.
