Phone-makers look to launch VoLTE phones to piggyback Reliance Jio
Gearing to launch its 4G network in India soon, Reliance Industries has already pumped in $22 billion in Reliance Jio for the same.
The handsets manufacturers have started rolling out VoLTE supported phones for Reliance Jio SIM cards.
Motorola, on Tuesday, upgraded its Moto X Play handsets which support VoLTE for Reliance Jio SIM and soon other manufacturers will come out with similar features to support Reliance Jio.
Reliance Jio is the telecom arm of Reliance Industries and is set to make its services available in the current year.
To use HD Voice feature on Jio platform, users are required to have VoLTE supported smartphones which will enable the users to continue HD voice over Jio 4G network without switching over 2G and 3G network, said a News Telecom report.
What is VoLTE?
VoLTE or Voice Over LTE means HD voice calling over 4G LTE network, which makes the voice call clearer.
Not only in the 4G market but Reliance smartphone brand--Lyf--has already disrupted the market. The company displaced Lava and became the fifth largest smartphone vendor in the India between January to March 2016.

In December last year, RJio launched services for its employees, partners and vendors on a trial basis. It currently has 0.56 million users on its network with average monthly data usage per user at 18 GB.
