Philips BASS+ SHB3075WT wireless headphones review: There audio device segment is booming in India. There are several options from wired to wireless and from premium to pocket-friendly. While some audio lovers prefer more treble in sound, others extra bass to ears. Some would ask for style factor in a budget range. This is one of the reasons why buyers are often confused despite audio companies offering multiple features on paper. Personally, I prefer a comfortable pair of headphones that offer a balanced sound and give basic functioning of changing tracks, answering calls and weigh light on ears. The recently launched Philips BASS+ SHB3075WT Wireless Headphones offers of all this? Let's find out.
Design and built
The latest offering by Philips is an over-the-ear headphone which means that its covers your ears in a way that you can easily get lost in your favourite melodies. The headphone cups are made of soft cushion-like material that is covered in a layer of faux leather. This layer is connected with the rest of the device using plastic heads, which in turn are connected to the headband via hinges. These hinges allow the ear-cups to rotate right and left up to a 90-degree angle, making it easier to carry anywhere.
As far as the headband is concerned, instead of a faux leather finish, it is made up of plastic, which makes it resistant to sweat and light on the head. Overall the headphones are quite comfortable. The only concern with the quality is the size of the speaker drivers, which is just 32mm. The earmuffs sometimes cause pain after an hour of usage.
They don't fully cover your ears so it hurts your upper ear after using it continuously for about an hour. Also, the quality of the headband could be made better by adding pads, for the price paid.
Audio and sound quality
Now talking about the audio quality, the headphones offer a good sound quality with pleasing bass and balanced treble. The best part is that the sound not really distorts on high volumes, which makes it an ideal buy at below Rs 2,000. I listened to 'Ghungru' song from 'War', and the headphones performed well. The bass was decent and clearly audible in each earpiece.
Switching to English songs like 'Memories' by 'Maroon 5' and 'Cry for Me' by 'Camila Cabello' was also good, as the headset generated a crisp and clear sound. It played slow and soft music way better. The title track of movie 'Kalank' from 'Arijit Singh' was pleasing and better from all other tracks. All these songs were played using Gaana music app. While playing music from YouTube, the songs were playing at a lower volume and I felt very little difference in sound quality.
The audio quality while calling is also decent, but you may need to scream sometimes if you are in a noisy background or have a poor Bluetooth connection with smartphone. The headphones don't support Noise Cancellation feature, which is a disappointment unlike other headphones in this price range. I also tried out these headphones in the gym and the experience was not that good. During my workout sessions, the headphones were slipping from ears as the speaker's drivers are too small to cover your ears. Also, the earmuffs were wet due to sweat, which can possibly lead to damage to these fabric after continuous usage. Also, there is no Aux connection in the headphones. So if you ever run out of battery you have to wait for it to charge. So keep in mind that they are not always ready to go.
The other thing where it clearly wins is the battery backup. The Philips BASS+ Wireless headphones offers an uninterrupted 12 hours of battery backup, according to company and during a 3.5 hour continuous usage, it was still alive like anything. Overall, though the audio quality of the headphones is decent, it becomes painful after an hour of continuous usage, either due to its uncomfortable design or any other factor. But that is the case with my ears, the headphones may suit your head and ears more comfortably.
Verdict
The Philips BASS+ Wireless headphones can be found online for Rs 1,899, and for this kind of money, you can't expect way too much. We like the fact that sound is clean without distortion even at full volume and there's a pleasant amount of bass. Though the quality suffers while long usage as the fit gets uncomfortable very quickly. Overall it's a good product but lacks in comfort. So if you have sensitive ears, we will recommend to go for bigger drivers as they cover your ear completely. However, on the bright side its battery life is very good and it weighs much lighter. If you're looking for good Bluetooth audio performance in this price range, the headset offers good value.
