NEW IT Rules: Comply with new rules or face CONSEQUENCES - Govt gives FINAL notice to Twitter
Twitter recently said it was committed to India as a vital market, however, criticised the new IT rules and regulations.
Citing on non-compliance of New Intermediary Guideline Rules by Twitter, the Government of India on Saturday, June 5, said that if the micro-blogging site fails to follow the guidelines, they will face the “consequences as per the IT Act and other penal laws", ANI has tweeted the notice, which was drafted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) today.
Giving final notice to Twitter to comply with India’s new rules, the Centre has mentioned that “the provision for significant social media intermediaries under the rules have already come into force on May 26, 2021, and it has been more than a week but Twitter has refused to comply with the provisions of these rules."

Such non-compliance will lead to unintended consequences, including Twitter losing exemption from liability available under section 79 of the IT Act, 2000. Twitter shall be liable for consequences as per the IT Act and other penal laws of India," the government has warned.
