iPhone X 2018: Is Apple coming up with new design?
Apple is reportedly coming up with new iPhone X style models this year with a larger 6.1-inch display. The current iPhone X comes with 5.8-inch screen
Apple is reportedly coming up with new iPhone X style models this year with a larger 6.1-inch display. The current iPhone X comes with 5.8-inch screen. The larger screen is expected to be LCD instead of current OLED. Apple is rumoured to launch three new iPhone X style models this year with at least one of them being an affordable version of the phone. The budget 2018 iPhone X is rumoured to come with a larger 6.1-inch display than the current 5.8-inch iPhone X screen.
This larger screen should be LCD to save money over the current OLED offering. According to Express UK report, OLED allows for the lack of bezel on the current model which would not happen with the LCD version. However, Apple reportedly has found a solution to this problem to offer bezel-free notch screen on the new LCD model. Japanese tech firm Nichia is reportedly will provide the technology.
Compared to the current LCD screens that need up to 4.5mm, the new screen needs only 2-2.5mm bezel space, the report said. Some Android smartphones use LCD feature with larger chin bezel at the bottom of their displays. The new 0.3t technology can mean a decrease in accuracy and stability, the report said.
However, Apple is testing the new tech since early 2018 and appears to be sticking to its usual standards. Nichia will be Apple's sole supplier for this 0.3t LED chip tech. The smartphone maker is expected to unveil its new iPhones in September.
