Facebook-owned social media app, Instagram announced a new feature where a user can "restrict" a bully from commenting on her or his posts. Instagram has brought this feature to prevent bullying incidents on the app and empower the target of bullying to take actions for themselves. Once the user will restrict the bullying person, then comments from that person will be visible to him only.

"This is especially crucial for teens since they are less likely to report online bullying even when they are the ones who experience it the most," Instagram mentioned in its statement.

With the advent of the new feature "restricted" on Instagram, people won't be able to see when you are active on Instagram or when you have read their direct messages. Also, you can choose to make a restricted person’s comments visible to others by approving their comments.

"My top priority as head of Instagram is the wellbeing of the people who use our platform every day. I had the chance to sit down with @TIME to talk about Instagram's fight against bullying and the steps we're taking to lead the industry in this fight," Adam Mosseri, Head of the Instagram tweet reads.

Instagram already started to roll out another new feature which notifies people when their comment may be considered offensive before it's posted. This encourages and gives another chance to reflect or undo their comment and prevents the recipients from receiving a harmful comment notification.

"We wanted to create a feature that allows people to control their Instagram experience, without notifying someone who may be targeting them," Mosseri said in the Instagram's blog.
