India Mobile Congress 2023: India will lead in 6G, says PM Modi

India has witnessed the speedy roll-out of 5G services and will also lead in 6G, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi at India Mobile Congress 2023 in New Delhi. 

"Whether telecom, technology, or connectivity; whether it is 6G, AI, cybersecurity, semiconductors, drones or space sector, the future is going to be very different," said PM Modi at the 7th edition of India Mobile Congress at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. 

Emphasising that India has witnessed 4 lakh 5G base stations set up within one year of the roll-out, PM Modi said the country has reached 43rd position in mobile broadband speed from the previous rank of 118. 

World using Made in India phones

Underlining the priorities of his government, the Prime Minister said that India has become an exporter from a net importer in the last 9 years and the world today is using 'Made in India' phones. 

"Recently, Google has announced the manufacturing of its Pixel phone in India. Samsung's Fold 5 mobile phone and Apple's iPhone 15 are being manufactured in India. We are proud that the world is using Made in India mobile phones…," he said.

"Access to capital, access to resources and access to technology is the government's priority," PM Modi further said. 

Earlier, Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that India is emerging as telecom technology developer, exporter and leader. 

"India is emerging as a telecom technology developer, exporter and leader, and the world today is looking at the country with hope," he said.

The Minister said that driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clear vision and leadership, the telecom sector has achieved several milestones on connectivity, affordability and standards, and has moved out of the shadow of litigation and the 2G scam of the past.

Telecom is the gateway of digital, Vaishnaw said, citing the speedy roll-out of 5G services in India and the nation's clear 6G vision.
