IBM, Meta launch AI alliance to build open, responsible AI
The AI Alliance is focused on fostering an open community and enabling developers and researchers to accelerate responsible innovation in AI while ensuring scientific rigour, trust, safety, security, diversity and economic competitiveness.
On Tuesday, IBM and Meta jointly launched the AI Alliance, a collaborative effort involving over 50 tech companies as founding members and global collaborators.
The primary focus of the AI Alliance is to cultivate an open community that empowers developers and researchers to expedite responsible innovation in AI. This initiative places emphasis on scientific rigor, trust, safety, security, diversity, and economic competitiveness.
Arvind Krishna, IBM Chairman and CEO, expressed the significance of this endeavor in shaping the future of AI. He stated, "IBM is proud to partner with like-minded organizations through the AI Alliance to ensure this open ecosystem drives an innovative AI agenda underpinned by safety, accountability, and scientific rigor."
The AI Alliance has outlined plans to create benchmarks, evaluation standards, tools, and resources that facilitate the responsible development and use of AI systems globally. Additionally, it aims to establish a catalog of vetted safety, security, and trust tools.
A key objective is to foster a dynamic AI hardware accelerator ecosystem by encouraging contributions and adoption of essential enabling software technology.
Initiatives launched by the AI Alliance will promote the open development of AI in safe and beneficial ways. The alliance will host events to explore AI use cases and showcase how its members utilize open technology in AI responsibly and for positive outcomes.
Among the participants in the AI Alliance are prominent entities such as AMD, CERN, Cornell University, Dell Technologies, EPFL, ETH, Imperial College London, Intel, Linux Foundation, NASA, NSF, Oracle, Partnership on AI, Red Hat, Sony Group, and Stability AI, among others.
Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta, highlighted that the AI Alliance brings together researchers, developers, and companies to share tools and knowledge, fostering progress whether AI models are shared openly or not.
Lisa Su, CEO and Chair of AMD, emphasized the importance of embracing open standards and transparency across all aspects of the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem. According to Su, this approach ensures that the transformative benefits of responsible AI are widely accessible.
