How to save mobile data on WhatsApp - step-by-step guide for Android, iOS

But do you know that WhatsApp is one of the major consumers of your mobile data, especially when you don’t change its data usage settings yourself. You can disable some features in the WhatsApp setting to save your mobile data, when not connected to a Wi-Fi.
Here are some tips to conserve your mobile data on WhatsApp
Android system
To enable low data usage in android devices, go to the settings in the WhatsApp menu, tap on 'data usage' and then select low data usage.
To disable auto-downloading over mobile data, go to the settings, tap on data usage, then select ‘When using mobile data’ option and deselect any media you don’t want using data like audios or videos and then tap the ‘OK’ button.
How to restrict chat backup? Go back to the settings tap to ‘Chats’ and then ‘Chat backup’, select the Chat backup option and then tap on back up over Wi-Fi.
iOS
To enable low data usage in iOS devices, go to the settings in the WhatsApp menu, select ‘Data and Storage Usage’ and then tap on Low Data Usage option.
To disable auto-downloading over mobile data, go to the settings and tap on Photos, Audio, Videos or Documents and then select Wi-Fi.
