How downloading Threads could threaten your Instagram profile
Threads, Meta's Twitter competitor, gained over 1 crore subscribers in only seven hours, but not all of the newly-launched social media platform's subscribers will be aware of the peril involved with signing up for it. Reports have highlighted a major catch that a lot of people who have downloaded the to-be Twitter replacement do not know.
In a 'Supplemental Privacy Policy,' Meta said that "You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account."
This means that if any user wants to delete their Threads profile, then it can only be done by deleting their Instagram account. However, the users can deactivate their profile at any time they want.
According to the social network, a user's Threads profile is an essential component of their Instagram account. Currently, Instagram has more than 2 billion users worldwide, and Threads, dubbed a "Twitter killer," is accessible in 100 countries, including India.
IANS was informed by Prabhu Ram, the director of CyberMedia Research's Industry Intelligence Group (IIG) that, "Threads app stands out from other Twitter challengers by tapping into a ready user base potentially migrating from Instagram on Day Zero. With Mark Zuckerberg's proven execution skills, Threads has the potential to become a breakthrough alternative to Twitter." "While focusing on user growth initially, Threads is poised to attract advertisers as its user base expands,” he added.
According to reports, some prestigious brands, including Netflix, Amazon, the NFL, and Pepsi, have shown their support for Threads by becoming members of the app. Threads' audience size could match that of Twitter even if they only manage to nab a quarter of the Instagram user base.
Additionally, when users under the age of 16 (or under the age of 18 in some countries) sign up for the app, their default profile will be a private one. Within Threads, users can manage who can mention or comment on them. Users can add hidden words to their threads, just as on Instagram, to filter out comments that include certain words. By tapping the three-dot menu, they may also unfollow, block, restrict, or report a profile on Threads, and any profiles they have blocked on Instagram will also be blocked on Threads.
With Threads, users can interact with friends and producers who share their interests, including those they follow on Instagram, in a manner similar to Instagram.
