Chinese technology firm Huawei has launched Honor Magic 2 smartphone on its hometurf, combining the design of Huawei P20 Pro with a slider mechanism. The new device is claimed to be the first smartphone to flaunt six cameras, three on the front and three on the back. With the launch of Magic 2, Honor stands at par with Xiaomi, which was the first company to introduce Mi MIX 3 with manual slider design early this week.

According to a BGR report, the slider design can be seen as a workaround for the mechanical sliding components witnessed on Vivo NEX and Oppo Find X. The smartphone industry is reportedly split between mechanical components and sliders, but Honor and Xiaomi seem to prefer the later.

Another technology company Lenovo is laos expected to follow these firms launching its Z5 Pro smartphone later today, BGR said.

Coming in three different storage options, Honor Magic 2 is currently available for preorders in China. The base model with 6GB RAM/128GB storage is priced at RMB 3,799 (around Rs 40,300), and 8GB RAM variant with 128GB or 256GB storage will be priced at RMB 4,299 (around Rs 45,600) and RMB 4,799 (around Rs 50,900) respectively. The new Honor devices are scheduled to be shipped for consumers from November 6.

Honor Magic 2 borrows its design cues from that of Huawei P20 Pro, but has features that were introduced with the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro last month. It sports a 6.4-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2280×1080 pixels translating to an aspect ratio of 19:9. This is among the few devices to have an edge-to-edge display design without a notch.

The new device has 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage, but is devoid of microSD card slot. The new phone has a combination of 16-megapixel wide-angle, 24-megapixel monochrome, and a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle sensors on its back.

For selfie lovers, the smartphone has a combination of 16-megapixel camera with two 2-megapixel depth sensors. It also supports Face Unlock, besides having an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Honor Magic 2 runs EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie, and also boasts of virtual assistant called Yoyo. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, dual-band GPS, 4G LTE and USB Type-C port.
