Google testing a generative AI tool for news writing: Report

In the age of technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become quite popular and significant, especially in the fields of education, content writing, and robotics. Amid reports of AI taking over content writing jobs across the globe, Google is reportedly testing an AI-powered tool, primarily aimed at news writers. According to a report by The New York Times, the AI tool will leverage the power of the large language model (LLM), the underlying framework of generative AI platforms like ChatGPT, Bing Chat, and even Google Bard, to function toward writing news articles.

The Google AI tool is expected to assist news publications significantly.

The report also notes that the tool could also serve as a kind of personal assistant for journalists, by automating some tasks to free up time for them, thus aiming to make it a responsible technology for steering the publishing industry away from the pitfalls of existing generative AI.

How will the Google AI tool work?

As per the latest data available, the Google AI tool which is said to be internally known by the working title of 'Genesis' will work by gathering information, like the details of the current events, to generate news content.

However, it still remains unclear whether the upcoming AI tool will be different from Bard, the tech giant's ChatGPT rival, which also has the potential to generate news articles based on real-time data.

Jenn Crider, a Google spokeswoman in a statement spoke about the ongoing development and said that the company is in the earliest stages of exploring ideas in partnership with news publishers to provide AI-enabled tools to help journalists. 

Further adding that the tool is not intended or cannot replace the role of journalists in the case of "reporting, creating and fact-checking their articles", she said that it will provide better options for headlines and writing styles.
