Google Pay introduces UPI Lite: What it means for users, how to activate and other options available
Google Pay UPI Lite: UPI Lite is a digital payment service designed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It was launched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in September 2022.
Google Pay UPI Lite: Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is quite popular these days in India and the number of transactions per day is in billions. Considering this, Google Pay - the payment app by Google - has introduced UPI Lite. This feature will not just make small digital transactions easier but faster as well.
What is UPI Lite
For those who are unaware, UPI Lite is a digital payment service designed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It was launched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in September 2022.
The main purpose of launching UPI Lite was to make money transfer of amount less than Rs 200 more easy. One can transfer any amount less than Rs 200 with just a tap. It means that you will not need to enter your PIN for these transactions.

Google Pay UPI Lite: How to activate?
Follow below mentioned steps to activate Google Pay UPI Lite:
Step 1: Open the Google Pay app.
Step 2: Tap on the profile icon at the top right corner.
Step 3: Scroll down to the ‘UPI Lite’ feature.
Step 4: Tap on it. This will open a new screen with instructions and details about UPI Lite
Step 5: Tap on activate UPI Lite.
Step 6: Link your bank account and follow the on-screen instructions
Step 7: Once the process is complete, you will receive a confirmation message stating that UPI Lite has been activated
Google Pay UPI Lite: Daily limit
A user can add Rs 4,000 in a day. However, the maximum amount that you can add in one go is Rs 2,000.
Similarly, the maximum amount that you can pay in one single transaction using Google Pay UPI Lite is Rs 200.
Google Pay UPI Lite: Other options
Google is not the first one to launch the UPI Lite feature. Its rivals Paytm and PhonePe are already providing the facility. Google launched this facility weeks after its rivals Paytm and PhonePe rolled out the same feature on their platform apps.
There are around 15 banks that support UPI Lite as of now.
