The feature phone of Reliance Jio which are expected to be out in a week might be sold under its sister-brand’s name. Pictures of Jio’s new phone were leaked in a report by TechPP that showed Jio’s 4G VoLTE phone branded as Lyf.
 
Specifications of the phone were similar to earlier reports of a 2.4-inch colour screen on top and dual-language keypad at the bottom. The price of the phone was rumoured to be as low as Rs 500.
 
Although it is being marketed as a feature phone, which typically lacks the functionality of a smartphone, Jio’s 4G VoLTE phone is speculated to be pretty ‘out of the box.’
 
1. Jio Apps:
 
Like all feature phones, Jio’s latest will also have an alphanumeric keyboard below the screen. However, the highlight of the phone was cited as ability to run Jio apps like Jio TV, Jio Cinema, despite being a feature phone. The report added that the phone appeared to be running on KAI OS which is forked version of Firefox OS (based on HTML 5).
 
2. Storage space:
 
The phone is said to come with 512MB of RAM plus 4GB internal storage. The report said it also supported a microSD card for up to 128GB external storage, which is pretty unusual for a feature phone.
 
3. Whatsapp & Facebook?
 
Jio’s phone is said to have its own dedicated app store called KaiOS Plus with apps like Facebook and Jio apps listed there. The report speculated inclusion of other apps like WhatsApp to be accessed via the phone as well.
 
4. Video Calling, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS:
 
Along with bundled data and unlimited voice calls Jio phone may have the option for video calling as well. The new phone may have Bluetooth 4.1 and USB tethering as well, the report added as well as GPS.
 
5. Indian Voice-Assistant

An in-built Voice Assistant with support given in Indian languages was also cited in the report. The app will be able to answer questions like current weather and solving mathematical equations.
