Zomato’s AI generated ad featuring Elon Musk, Messi as food stall owners leaves viewers amused
The now deleted video, which was posted on Zomato’s official Instagram account, showed the famous personalities as the food stall owners. While many users shared memes and funny reactions, a few questioned the use of the AI-generated images of famous personalities without their permission.
Online food delivery app Zomato never fails to amuse users on social media through its funny, innovative, and thought-provoking posts. The restaurant aggregator is once again in the spotlight for creating an Artificial Intelligent (AI) generated video clip of prominent personalities, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, famous footballer Lionel Messi and Oscar winning Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio.
The now deleted video, which was posted on Zomato’s official Instagram account, showed the famous personalities as the food stall owners.
The clip featured billionaire Elon Musk preparing samosa chat at "Musk Chat Bhandar", star footballer Lionel Messi packing a rice box at "Messi Andhra Mess" and Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio looking after a tea stall named "Oscar Chai Wala".
Zomato AI Video draws mixed reaction
Using a line from Hrithik Roshan's Krish movie, Zomato sarcastically captioned the post as, "AI be like: Maa meri shaktiyo ka galat istemal hua hai (my powers have been misused)." After the post went online, it attracted huge reaction from the users, who laughed at the new roles of these prominent personalities and even posted hilarious memes.
One user inquired, "Ronaldo Rumali Roti hai kya?"
Another user suggested that Zomato should consider a stall for CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg under the name "Mark Zuckerburger Stall." Some criticised Zomato for creating such images.
Zomato, however, has removed the advertisement as it is no longer visible on their Instagram handle, but a screengrab from the same video is still circulating on social media.
Many users also questioned whether the food delivery platform took permission from these famous personalities before distorting their images into these scenarios using generative AI.
For the unversed, the guidelines of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) state that permission should be sought before using the names or references of well-known individuals in any ad campaign. Often, brands use AI-generated images and videos for their advertisements, but it is crucial to comply with regulations to avoid any kind of legal issue.
Musk-Zuckerberg cage fight: What we know so far?
This, however, isn't the first time that popular personalities have been portrayed doing something completely opposite to their real self. Earlier, using an AI tool called MidJourney AI, an artist created posters of a cage fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. Leaving the users amused, the AI picture took social media by storm in no time. This came after Musk on Twitter invited Zuckerberg for a "cage fight".
I'm up for a cage match if he is lol
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 21, 2023
The response came from Meta CEO on Instagram, who responded, saying "Send me a location". To this, Musk responded saying, "Vegas Octagon", which is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) arena in Las Vegas.
