Change seems to be the only constant in the sprawling world of technology. The notion could not be truer in the world of high-performing laptops. Consumer tech makers across the world have been vying to claim the top spot, with a strong determination to innovate and disrupt the status quo. Taking stock of the recent developments, the next big disruption in the field of laptops seems to favour the advent of dual-screen laptops. Dual-screen laptops grabbed all the eyeballs at Computex 2019. While some of the leading brands are ready with their offerings, others released spectacular prototypes, giving a glimpse into what the future has in its store for us.
Crafted for the Future
A singular machine comprising two different screens, dual-screen laptops are a perfect fit for today’s digitally-savvy consumers, content creators, and passionate gamers. These futuristic machines make multitasking a simple endeavour. While someone is editing a video on one screen, the other can give live demos. Passionate gamers can engage in action-packed games on the main screen while utilising the secondary screen to zoom in on a map, open the chat window, or stream their favourite music.
Leading Brands Galore
At this year’s Computex, Intel gave us a sneak peek into its dual-screen prototype, the Honeycomb Glacier. The primary screen of the prototype is 15.6-inch, hinging on a secondary 12.3-inch virtual display. The laptop closes like any other but opens with the two screens mounted atop each other, adjusted at a comfortable angle.
And while the prototype caught the fancy of the onlookers, ASUS is ready to wow the users with a ready-to-use dual-screen offering. At Computex 2019, ASUS showcased ZenBook Pro Duo, an ultra-high-end Windows 10 dual-screen laptop. The main touchscreen is 15.6-inch long, serving a formidable 16:9 4K UHD resolution. It is accompanied by a ScreenPad Plus screen, a 32:9 4K 14-inch screen, placed right above the keyboard. Along with ZenBook Pro Duo, ASUS is also bringing ZenBook Duo, a smaller and lighter dual-screen offering, with 14-inch Full HD primary screen and 12.6-inch Full HD secondary touchscreen.
