Custom duty hike forces Apple to increase iPhone prices in India
The prices of iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s have also been increased in the range of 3.21% to 3.88%. These phones are available in two variants each namely 128 GB and 32 GB respectively.
Hike in custom duty on smartphones has forced Apple Inc to increase prices on its various products in India.
From Monday onwards, entire range of Apple iPhones will be sold at a higher price from their previous ones, except iPhone SE, which comes in two variant 128 GB (Rs 35,000) and 32 GB (Rs 26,000). The iPhone SE was developed in India by Wistron since June 2017.
iPhone X, both 256 GB and 64 GB variant, will now be sold at Rs 105,720 and Rs 92,430 compared to its previous price of Rs 102,000 and Rs 89,000 respectively. In value terms, the hike in these phones was highest by Rs 3,720 and Rs 3,430 respectively.
At the same time, iPhone 8 Plus will be sold at Rs 88,750 for 256GB model and Rs 75,450 for 64 GB model - higher by Rs 2,750 and Rs 2,450 from their previous prices.
Price of iPhone 8 has also been increased by Rs 2,420 to Rs 79,420 for 256 GB variant and up by Rs 2,120 to Rs 66,120 for 64GB variant.
The prices of iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s have also been increased in the range of 3.21% to 3.88%. These phones are available in two variants each namely 128 GB and 32 GB respectively.
Meantime, iPhone 6 available in 32GB has seen a price rise of Rs 1,280 (4.34%%) to Rs 30,780 from its earlier price of Rs 29,500.
The government has recently increased the custom duty on phones brought from outside India to 15% from its previous 10%. Apple is the first company to increase price of its products after this change.
