Blaupunkt BT-52 Bluetooth speaker review: I am strong believer that to get the best audio experience while watching a movie, streaming your favourite show or listening to music, you need to have a good audio device. No matter what smartphone or laptop you are using, its true potential is not realised until used with a powerful audio device. For some, a superior headset might do the job, but I prefer a Bluetooth speaker instead.

Now, the problem here is that you don’t get too many good Bluetooth speakers at an affordable price. The limited options you have, don’t deliver the desired audio output. The German consumer electronics brand, Blaupunkt has recently added a new Bluetooth speaker – Blaupunkt BT-52 – in its already impressive portfolio.

The device offers 10W of audio output despite its compact design, has an in-built mic and a TF card slot with 32GB of storage (in case you still like to carry your songs around, instead of streaming them!). The Blaupunkt BT-52 Bluetooth speaker has been priced at Rs 1,699. So, what makes it better than the other Bluetooth speakers priced lesser? And, is it worth your money? Let’s find out in this review.

Build and Design

Blaupunkt BT-52 Bluetooth speaker has nothing fancy about it. And, sometimes that’s exactly what you need. The rectangle-shaped audio box is made of plastic and looks solid. It comes in two colour options – Black and Blue, we had the first and it looks amazing. The buttons on the box have been camouflage well and the device itself doesn’t draw much attention. You can simply put in one corner of the room and the visitors will hardly notice it.

Blaupunkt has done a good job while the designing the device that comes with a rubber finish on the outer shell while the front speaker has been given a mesh-like fabric finish. The control buttons are placed on the top and the connectivity options are on the right panel. Here, you get four slots – memory card, AUX 3.5mm jack, microUSB port and power on/off button.

The overall design is very simple and solid. But, this could also be a challenge for the makers as not everyone likes their audio devices sober.

Performance

I have been using the Harmon Kardon HK Onyx Studio which is the gold standard when it comes to Bluetooth speakers, for almost three years now. While it is a true beast, the audio can be too loud at times. I have tried smaller Bluetooth speakers but the audio output is too less. And, the Blaupunkt BT-52 fills the void while offering the almost perfect output with its 10W dual speakers that allow you to enjoy media without creating trouble for others in the house.

I have been using this device for almost two weeks now and have connected with to my MacBook Air and OnePlus 5 to watch movies, listen to music and even to stream this week’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Liverpool, totally dominated by the latter. To test the device, I played these tracks – Paint it, Black (The Rolling Stones), Circle of Life from The Lion King and Bad Boy from Saaho. I also used the device to watch Article 15 and a few episodes of Mindhunter: Season 2.

It delivered a good sound quality in almost all cases, especially performing well when connected with the laptop. Given that the speaker is priced at just Rs 1,699, I wasn’t expecting high bass from it and that’s exactly the case. You can use the Blaupunkt BT-52 to start your day with soothing music but don’t expect it to host house parties for you at night.

Connectivity and Battery Life

The speaker comes with multiple connectivity options. Not too many people look beyond streaming media these days, but this could come handy while travelling or if you are in a poor network area. The wireless is claimed to offer 10 meters of range and I didn’t face much trouble there.

The company claims that this speaker comes with a powerful battery that can last for more than 6 hours with moderate usage. And, it did last for around five hours for me, even at full volume.

Verdict

The Blaupunkt BT-52 Bluetooth speaker offers great value for money as it only offers you a better audio output than most affordable Bluetooth speakers while remaining highly portable. As mentioned above as well, you can place the device in a corner in your room and simply forget about it. At the same time, you can also pack it in your bag and carry around while travelling without much trouble.

If you are looking for a mid-range Bluetooth speaker that delivers superior audio quality, is solidly built and remains portable, the Blaupunkt BT-52 Bluetooth speaker is a total steal at Rs 1,699.
