Apple has started to offer spare parts for the iPhone 16 series, enabling users in the US and some other countries to repair their own devices. Seen as part of Apple’s ‘support user repairability’ initiative, which began in 2022, this service is yet not available in India. Additionally, Apple is offering repair tool kits, which can be availed for rent at $49 for a seven-day duration. These kits comprise specialised tools, which can be used for safely disassembling the device for repairs. Along with batteries and displays, users also get to replace other crucial parts, which include the rear back glass, camera system, TrueDepth camera, responsible for powering Face ID, and top and bottom speakers. Apple repair manuals are also available to assist users with each step of repair.

Although the self-repair option is explorable for users to save costs, it is advisable for only those users who are well-familiar with handling electronics, since replacing components like batteries may involve safety risk. The company’s manual contains safety measures to be adopted to ensure repairs are safe and correct.
