Apple WWDC 2022: At the WWDC 2022 event, Apple introduced a host of new products alongside the new software updates, including new Apple Silicon M2 chip. The company also launched a completely redesigned MacBook Air and an updated 13-inch MacBook Pro, both powered by the new M2 chip.

According to the company, the all-new MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro will be available on apple store. They will begin arriving to customers, and will be in select Apple Authorised Resellers, next month. Price of MacBook Air with M2 starts at Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,09,900 for education. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 starts at Rs 1,29,900 and Rs 1,19,900 for education. 

With an all-new, strikingly thin design and even more performance, MacBook Air also features a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, four-speaker sound system, up to 18 hours of battery life, and MagSafe charging. 

It is now available in four color options-  silver, space gray, midnight, and starlight. M2 also comes to the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the world’s second best-selling laptop — delivering incredible performance, up to 24GB of unified memory, ProRes acceleration, and up to 20 hours of battery life, all in a compact design The new MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro join the even more powerful 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max to round out the strongest lineup of Mac notebooks ever offered.

 “Completely redesigned around M2, MacBook Air is thinner, lighter, and faster with a bigger display, better camera, and all-day battery life, in four beautiful finishes. Only with Apple silicon can you build such a thin and light notebook with a fanless design, and this combination of performance and capabilities. M2 also comes to the 13-inch MacBook Pro, featuring incredible performance, ProRes acceleration, up to 24GB of memory, and up to 20 hours of battery life — making our most portable pro notebook even better," Joswiak said in a statement.

The powerhouse of the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro is the M2 chip. Apple has introduced the new M2 chipset which is the generation 2 of the M chipset line. The company aims to maximize performance and minimize power consumption. The M2 is more powerful than the M1 but delivers better battery performance. 

M2 also features a new GPU that now has 10 cores. It delivers better 25% performance with the same power level. The M2 gets a new neural engine and new media engine that supports 8K. The M2 comes with 20 billion transistors, 100GB/s unified memory performance which gives 50% more than M1. It gets 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.

The new MacBook Air with M2 will get MagSafe support. It will also get two thunderbolt ports for faster data transfer and charing as well. The MacBook Air will also feature a new 3.5mm headphone jack.

The new MacBook Air will be 20% faster from the M1 MacBook Air in applying image filters in PhotoShop. It will also be 40% faster on Final Cut Pro. Despite the fanless design, Apple claims the MacBook Air M2 will be able to provide 18 hours of video playback. There are also new charging options. MacBook Air M2 supports fast charge with 67W adapter which can charge the battery to 50% in 30 minutes.

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro also gets the new M2 chipset. The second generation of the chipset provides the machine with 40 percent better performance compared to the previous version and it also supports better gaming performance, by up to 30 percent. The M2 MacBook Pro will allow up to  24GB of unified memory for better multi-tasking.
