A Kannada news channel 'Power TV' has launched what it claims to be South India's first AI news presenter. Power TV's Soundarya came weeks after an Odia news channel OTV o launched the state's first AI news presenter named Lisa.
As Artificial Intelligence has become the new buzz word in the world of technology many have sounded alarm about adoption of AI taking away jobs, especially in creative fields that involve writing or research work. With AI chatbots having the ability to generate articles automatically, it clearly has the potential to replace journalists and content writers. With that said, of late, AI-powered news presenters have now also started entering into the Indian television news space.
In the latest one, a Kannada news channel 'Power TV' has launched what it claims to be South India's first AI news presenter. Named as 'Soundarya' by the channel management, the AI presenter's first show was rolled out a week back and it seems she already knows her job!
South India's first AI news presenter
In her first show, Soundarya began by introducing herself and speaking about how AI has been leaving its footprint in almost every industry, including the TV news industry. Mentioning the other news channels that have come up with their own AI-powered presenters, Soundarya said, "A few of my colleagues started presenting news in some of the channels in north India. I am Soundarya, south India’s first robotic anchor by Power TV."
With her introduction going quite well on the first day, it will be interesting to see how the channel experiments with the presenters for their various news shows.
Indian channels introducing AI anchors
Power TV's Soundarya came weeks after an Odia news channel OTV o launched the state's first AI news presenter named Lisa. A video of the news anchor, dressed in Odisha's traditional outfit went viral showing her delivering news fluently in both Odia and English languages.

Apart from this, another Hindi news channel also unveiled its very own AI anchor. At an event, India Today introduced Aaj Tak's first AI-powered news anchor 'Sana', who will be tasked to present daily news updates in multiple languages.
Will AI replace human news anchors?
While the advantages of AI introduction in the field of journalism are quite evident, one cannot ignore the concerns that come with it as many fear that it can largely replace human jobs in the television news space.
The way technology and sectors are transforming in the AI period, it won't be wrong to say that the expansion of computer infrastructure can potentially make people jobless in the journalism sector. It is now to see till the transition period is over about how AI actually affects human jobs.
