Chip shortage: Apple iPhone production may be hit! what CEO Tim Cook said? Here's all you need to know

In a major development, the US-based global tech giant Apple said that the global chip shortage could affect iPhone production and the company also forecast slowing revenue growth. Apple executives said that the revenue for the current fiscal fourth quarter will grow by double-digits, but below the 36.4 percent growth rate in the just-ended third quarter.

According to a report from the news agency IANS, Apple executives also said that while the impact of the chip shortage was less severe than feared in the third quarter, it will get worse in the fourth, extending to iPhone production.

According to the report, there are several reasons behind the global shortage of chips, including factory closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic and increased demand for consumer electronics products during the lockdown and work from home setups.
Reports indicate that many players in the mobile phone industry are struggling to procure a variety of semiconductors, including the struggle for sourcing power-management chips, display drivers, application processors, in addition to 4G and 5G chipsets.
Recently, the company announced that the iPhone revenue set a June quarter record of $39.6 billion, growing 50 per cent year-over-year and exceeding its own expectations. The iPhone 12 family continued to be in very high demand across the world including in India.
Meanwhile, Apple saw blockbuster revenue growth for iPhones in the second quarter this year, despite a unit total which increased only 1 per cent (45.7 million units), a Canalys report showed on Thursday, as major brands struggled to secure key components to produce devices to meet demand globally.
