Apple Watch Series 7 detailed review: Buy it or not?
Apple Watch Series 7 comes in two case sizes, 41mm and 45mm, and you will get multiple strap options to choose from as well.
Apple Watch Series 7 review: We all know that the US-based tech giant Apple has already created a big space in the wearable market across the globe with its smartwatches -- the Apple Watch series. Apple smartwatches have always been in demand because it offers multiple top-end features, accurate health tracking, premium design and more. All the predecessors of the Apple Watch have shown accuracy when it comes to fitness tracking and overall performance. Now, after successfully launching the Apple Watch Series 6 last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the company this year unveiled a new next-generation and upgraded Apple Watch Series 7in India and globally.

Apple Watch Series 7 comes in two case sizes, 41mm and 45mm, and you will get multiple strap options to choose from as well. It starts at R. 41,900 in India for a 41mm GPS-only model with an aluminum case, while the bigger 45mm model with the same specifications is available at Rs 44,900. The GPS + Cellular Apple Watch Series 7 is priced at Rs. 50,900 (41mm) or Rs 53,900 (45mm). I had a 41mm GPS + Cellular unit with a green aluminum case for this review. I have used the Apple Watch Series 7 for a few weeks now and here is what I have to say about this latest smartwatch from Apple.
After you unbox the Apple Watch Series 7, the new look will make you fall in love with the smartwatch. The design itself is the same, but the watch face looks elegant in comparison to the earlier version. Also, the glass curves on the sides have added extra charm to the smartwatch. The Watch now has bigger displays. Like always, the right side has the digital crown and a multi-function button just below it. Between these two is a microphone hole. On the left side, you'll find a single wide cutout for the speaker, while all the sensors for tracking are on the underside. My Apple Watch Series 7 uses the same proprietary connectors for straps, so if you have an older version with the same size, it will fit in.
In terms of comparison, the display of the Apple Watch Series 7 offers nearly 20 percent more screen area and thinner borders at just 1.7 mm — 40 per cent smaller than those on Apple Watch Series 6. While the wrist is down, the Always-On Retina display is up to 70 percent brighter indoors than that of the Apple Watch Series 6, making it easier to see the watch face without having to lift the wrist or wake the display. Apple Watch Series 7 offers two additional larger font sizes, and a new QWERTY keyboard that can be tapped or swiped with QuickPat — allowing users to slide a finger to type — and utilizes on-device machine learning to anticipate the next word based on the context, making text entry easier and faster.
With watchOS 8, larger menu titles and buttons in apps like Stopwatch, Activity, and Alarms also make the screen even simpler to interact with. This QWERTY keyboard is handy for those who struggled with voice replies before. Also, all the notifications can now easily be seen on one screen and the alerts with images make much more sense. The narrower borders allow the display to maximize screen area, while minimally changing the dimensions of the watch itself. The design of the Apple Watch Series 7 is refined with softer, more rounded corners, and the display has a unique refractive edge that makes full-screen watch faces and apps appear to seamlessly connect with the curvature of the case.
The really good thing about the newly launched smartwatch from Apple is that it connects easily with your iPhone. The moment you bring it close to your iPhone, you will easily find the Watch connecting option. Once you start following the mandatory steps to connect the Watch with your iPhone, it won't take much time. The lifespan of the battery has been significantly enhanced. Apple Watch Series 7 provides nearly 18-hour battery life on a single charge -- 33 per cent faster charging compared with Apple Watch Series 6, via a new charging architecture and Magnetic Fast Charger USB-C Cable.
In real-life situations with usage like morning walk tracking and occasionally checking emails/iMessages and more, we got nearly 15-16 hours of battery life on a single charge. Apple Watch Series 7 wears a stronger, more crack-resistant front crystal. It is also the first Apple Watch to have an IP6X certification for resistance to dust, and maintains a WR50 water resistance rating (a device with a WR50 water resistance rating can survive up to 50 metres of water). The Watch continues to offer indispensable tools for health and wellness, including an electrical heart sensor and ECG app, and a Blood Oxygen sensor and app.
Also, watchOS 8 will help you stay healthy and connected through new workout types, the new Mindfulness app, innovative accessibility features, greater access with Apple Wallet, and more capabilities with the Home app. It uses on-device machine learning to anticipate the next word based on the context, making text entry easier and faster. With watchOS 8, larger menu titles and buttons in apps like Stopwatch, Activity, and Alarms also make the screen even simpler to interact with.
WatchOS 8 also debuts additional watch faces designed especially for the larger display on Apple Watch Series 7. The new Contour face takes the dial right to the edge of the display and fluidly animates throughout the day, emphasizing the current hour. You will also see Find Devices and Find Items app now on the Watch this time. In terms of battery performance, the battery life is better than the previous generation smartwatches since. On heavy usage, my Apple Watch provided about 18 hours of life on a full charge.
Verdict: With accurate Blood Oxygen monitoring and a fully-packed watchOS 8, Apple Watch Series 7 redefines the whole smartwatch experience. Overall, the Apple Watch Series 7 comes with better performance, new looks, and improved battery. Thanks to the larger screen size, this new Apple Watch can be the right choice over Series 5 and Series 6.
