Apple may extend Wi-Fi 6E support to iPhone 15 - Details

Apple iPhone 15: Apple is reportedly working on introducing a lot of new features in its upcoming iPhone 15 series. Now there are reports that the tech giant is likely to extend Wi-Fi 6E, where 'E' stands for 'Extended', support to iPhone 15.  

For now, Apple is offering Wi-Fi 6E support only in selected devices. The latest 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini models. All iPhone 14 models are still limited to standard Wi-Fi 6.

The information was shared by Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley. However, Curtis did not specify whether the Wi-Fi 6E feature will be available on all models of the iPhone 15 series or limited to the Pro models.

Wi-Fi 6 operates on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, while Wi-Fi 6E uses the 6GHz wireless band. This enables faster and more reliable wireless connections on devices that support it.

Earlier, there were rumours that iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models can support Wi-Fi 6E. But now that Apple has begun rolling out Wi-Fi 6E support to its latest devices, the iPhone 15 is more likely to support the standard, said the report.

Meanwhile, some leaked details have suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with solid-state buttons with haptic feedback, a titanium frame, and increased RAM.

The iPhone 15 lineup is expected to include a 6.1-inch iPhone 15, 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is also being reported that iPhone15 Pro models will feature ultra-thin, curved bezels compared to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

In a related development, iPhone maker Apple exported handsets worth USD 1 billion as of December.

"Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has actually created a buzz in the market. Our mobile manufacturing has gone to the next level. We are not only making it for India but Apple is exporting from India. The December figure we have just got is that they have exported USD 1 billion worth of mobile phones," Electronics and IT Secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma said.
