The new mute option essentially replaces the one-year option with ‘always’. The other two options remain 8 hours and 1 week. WhatsApp chats muted for one year are unmuted automatically after the deadline is over.

How to mute WhatsApp chats forever? - Open WhatsApp on your device.  On the home screen, open an individual or group chat (Android).  If you are using iPhone, open the contact info by tapping on the name of the contact. Tap Options (three dots).

From the given options, tap Mute notification.  You will be shown three options: 8 hours , 1 week  and Always. Select Always to mute WhatsApp chat forever and tap Ok.

This will ensure that you don’t get notifications from that person. To unmute the group notifications you have to follow the same process, hover over the group in your chats list, next click on the options (three dots), from the drop-down menu tap on Unmute notification.

Meanwhile, the messaging platform recently released the multi-device beta programme for some beta testers of the app. With the new feature, users can use WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop and Portal without an Internet connection on the main phone.

The company also rolled out a new feature where the users can join a group video or voice call even after it started, and you see the participants in a video call screen the way you see on various communication apps.

WhatsApp said that the 'Joinable calls' reduce the burden of answering a group call as it starts and brings the spontaneity and ease of in-person conversations to a group calling on WhatsApp.
