WhatsApp privacy: The Meta-owned messaging application WhatsApp has finally launched a major privacy update for the users around the world. The company is rolling out new options for privacy control settings that will let users hide their information from specific contacts. You can now hide their information such as profile picture, about and last seen status from specific contacts.
WhatsApp, took to micro-blogging site Twitter to announce the news. "To further protect your privacy online, we’re rolling out new options to your privacy control settings. Now you can select who from your contact list can see your Profile Photo, About, and Last Seen status," the Meta-owned platform wrote.
"On WhatsApp, we've created some basic controls that you can adjust as you see fit to help you stay safe. Adjust your privacy settings to control who sees your information," WhatsApp wrote in a blog post.
You can set your last seen, profile photo, about, or status to the following options:
- Everyone: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to all WhatsApp users.
- My Contacts: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book only.
- My Contacts Except…: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book, except those you exclude.
- Nobody: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status won't be available to anyone.

You can also turn off read receipts. If you turn off read receipts, you won't send or receive read receipts. Keep in mind, read receipts are always sent for group chats, even if you turn off the option in your privacy setting
In related news, WhatsApp recently announced the ability for users to migrate data from Android to iOS. It is adding the ability to switch between phones and transfer chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages between Android and iPhone while maintaining end-to-end encryption.
