WhatsApp latest news: Facing backlash over its new controversial privacy policy, Facebook-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has now reportedly started rolling out new feature that would enable users to mute videos before sending. Users can mute videos by tapping on the volume toggle, available in the section where users usually edit the video, a new report said.

According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp, after releasing the 2.21.3.13 update, WhatsApp is finally rolling out something new for their users: the possibility to mute videos before sending to anyone. "WhatsApp is rolling out this feature today for more users having a beta build. It might also appear in a previous update but it’s very recommended to update to the latest 2.21.3.13 beta update," the website reported.

The Mute Video feature first appeared in WhatsApp for Android app Beta v2.20.207.2, but it was only under development at that time. More details over its rollout are expected soon.

Earlier, WhatsApp update had asked users to either give their consent to sharing data with Facebook or lose their accounts after February 8. The policy was, however, put on hold till May 15 due to a massive backlash by the users.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp rival, Telegram is seeing huge uptick in downloads from Apple and Google's app stores. Telegram has become the most downloaded non-gaming app worldwide for January 2021 with more than 63 million installs, 3.8 times its downloads in the same month a year ago, according to latest data released by app analytics firm Sensor Tower.
