Twitter Users Alert! Free promotion of other social media platforms no longer allowed - Details
However, Twitter will continue to allow cross-posting content from any social media platform.
Twitter has been implementing several new rules ever since Elon Musk took over as CEO of the microblogging site. Now, it has been announced that users will be no longer allowed to promote their presence on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. The decision has irked several Twitter users.
Twitter said that while it recognises that many of its users are active on other social media platforms, "we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter".
Adopting a tough stand on it, Twitter said that it would remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms. Twitter said that the content links or usernames of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post will not be allowed. This simply means that users will no longer use links from other social media platforms in their Twitter bio.
However, it will continue to allow cross-posting content from any social media platform.
"Posting links or usernames to social media platforms not listed above are also not in violation of this policy," said the company.
Twitter said it will take action against accounts that violate this policy "at both the Tweet level and the account level."
"If violations of this policy are included in your bio and/or account name, we will temporarily suspend your account and require changes to your profile to no longer be in violation. Subsequent violations may result in permanent suspension," said Twitter.
Meanwhile, Twitter owner Elon Musk has started a poll asking users if he should quit as a Twitter head.
Musk tweeted from his account: "Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll."
