Twitter legacy Blue ticks: After launching the Twitter Blue subscription with multiple badge verification, Elon Musk, the new CEO of the micro-blogging platform, announced that he will remove all legacy blue badges in coming months.
"We will remove all legacy blue checks. The way in which they were given out was corrupt and nonsensical," Musk wrote on Twitter.
What is Twitter Blue subscription
The Blue subscription service with verification costs $8 for Android users and $11 for iPhone owners per month. When you subscribe your account will get access to subscriber-only features including Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, reader mode, and a blue checkmark (once your account has been reviewed)," said the company.
"Soon, subscribers with the blue checkmark will get priority ranking in search, mentions, and replies to help lower the visibility of scams, spam and bots," the micro-blogging platform added.
How to subscribe to Twitter Blue badge
To subscribe to Blue badge, your Twitter account must be at least 90 days old and have a confirmed phone number. The basic Blue will have half the number of ads. "We will offer a higher tier with no ads next year," said Mask.
Subscribers will be able to change their handle, display name or profile photo, "but if they do, they'll temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again", said Twitter.
Twitter phone verification
Twitter has said that phone verification is required to get a verified blue checkmark, to prevent impersonation of accounts. Twitter posted a picture on Sunday which mentioned, "Blue subscribers with a verified phone number will get a blue checkmark once approved."
Later, Esther Crawford, the product manager at Twitter, said that the micro-blogging platform added a review step before users are granted a blue checkmark. Crawford wrote: "We've added a review step before applying a blue checkmark to an account as one of our new steps to combat impersonation (which is against the Twitter Rules)."
