The platform said that it will introduce more categories later this year, such as those for scientists, academics and religious leaders. Over the next few weeks, everyone on this micro-blogging site will start to see the new verification application directly in the Account Settings tab. Once the application is submitted, the applicants can expect an emailed response within a few days, but this could take up to a few weeks depending on how many open applications are in the queue.

Steps to apply for blue tick verification:

To apply for account verification, you will need to head over to the account option under the Settings option on Twitter app.

Once the verification application option is available, you will need to first check the eligibility criteria and ensure that you belong to one of the six eligible categories.

You will then be required to provide all details such as government-issued ID, official email address, an official website link, among other details.

Once the application is submitted, you will receive an emailed response from Twitter, possibly in the next few days or so.

According to Twitter, the response will be sent in a few days or weeks, depending on how many open applications are in the queue. If Twitter accepts your verification application Twitter will automatically start showing the blue badge on your profile.

Please see that if Twitter declines your application, you now get the option to reapply 30 days after receiving Twitter’s decision on your previous application.

The blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic. To receive the blue badge, your account must be authentic, notable, and active.

Loss of verified status

In accordance with the Twitter Terms of Service, Twitter may remove the blue verified badge and verified status of a Twitter account at any time and without notice.

"You may lose your badge if you change your account name (@handle), if your account becomes inactive or incomplete, or if you are no longer in the position you initially were verified for – such as an elected government official who leaves office – and you do not otherwise meet our criteria for verification," the platform said.
