How many times did you think of streaming something on Netflix only to stop yourself because of the higher fee it charges? For at least two days, money is not something you will have to worry about. The streaming platform has announced the Netflix Stream Fest in India during which it will offer free video streaming to everyone in the country. In a video announcement, Netflix said that users will not require any debit or credit cards to enjoy the benefit.

Netflix will issue a code for users to access the app during the free-trial promotional offer. The offer will be applicable on December 5 and 6. During these 48 hours, all users will have free access to Netflix content.

The streaming service is set to offer a free trial of its service to everyone in the country for the weekend. The new plan will begin with India and reach global markets over time, Netflix Chief Product Officer Greg Peters had revealed during the company's earnings call earlier this year.

Peters said during Netflix' third-quarter earnings interview that the new trial promotion was just “an example of the kind of innovation” that the company planned. The executive called the plan as “an idea” to introduce the Web streaming service to new viewers. Netflix earlier offered a 30-day free trial to let new users test its service and watch a few Web series. However, this trial subscription offer appears to have been removed.

“[W]e think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have, the service, how the service works, really create an event, and hopefully get a bunch of those folks to sign up,” Peters said in the interview.

To compare, the Amazon Prime Video subscription costs Rs 999 for a year in India, while Netflix charges anywhere between 199 and 799 for a month.
