Swiggy, an on-demand food delivery platform, has appointed Amitesh Jha as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Swiggy Instamart, the company said in a press release today, August 29. Jha will assume the new role of CEO at quick commerce firm from September 4, 2024.

Before joining Swiggy Instamart, Jha was working with e-commerce firm Flipkart. A chemical engineering graduate from IIT Delhi, he also holds an MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad. Jha who has more than two decades of experience, had joined Flipkart during the company's early foray into electronics. Later, he worked as the head of Flipkart's supply chain. Most recently, he led Flipkart’s growth business, focusing on sustaining long-term growth.
Post his appointment Swiggy’s co-founder and current CEO of Swiggy Instamart, Phani Kishan, will assume a broader organization-wide role overseeing Swiggy’s central growth unit, and working closely with and reporting to Swiggy Group CEO Sriharsha Majety.

Commenting on the appointment, Swiggy Group CEO, Sriharsha Majety said, “Amitesh joins us from Flipkart, where he has built an impressive track record over the past 14 years. His extensive experience includes leading core categories such as smartphones, general merchandise, fashion, and large appliances, as well as managing their logistics arm. With Swiggy Instamart, we have a unique opportunity to redefine the way consumers shop in India, and I am excited about the prospects that lie ahead with Amitesh at the helm."

Speaking about his new position at Swiggy Instamart, Jha, said, “I firmly believe that the consumer internet industry in India is on the verge of transformative disruption. Founded in 2014, Swiggy Food collaborates with nearly two lakh restaurants across 600+ cities. Swiggy Instamart, its quick commerce platform operating in over 35 cities, delivers groceries and other essentials across more than 20 categories in 10 minutes.

Early this month, Swiggy appointed Sairam Krishnamurthy as senior vice president and chief operating officer (COO) to oversee Swiggy Instamart's operating units, which include dark store operations, infrastructure operations, city growth, and expansion. Read more
