Deepak Mohanty has been appointed as the new chairman of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). He will serve as the chairman of the regulatory body for 5 years from the date of appointment or till further orders.

Deepak will get monthly remuneration of Rs 4.5 lakh.

Deepak previously served as executive director of RBI and a whole-time member of the Pension Funds Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). 

Deepak obtained Bachelor's degree in Economics with Honors from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, in 1979.  He holds a Master's degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University and another Master's degree in Economics from Yale University.

What is Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority  (PFRDA) 

The Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority Act was passed on September 19, 2013, and the same was notified on 1st February 2014. 

PFRDA is regulating NPS, subscribed by employees of the government of India, state governments and by employees of private institutions/organizations & unorganized sectors. PFRDA is headquartered in New Delhi, with regional offices located around the country.
