“This month, our online food ordering business crossed a significant milestone – 2 million orders,” an emailed statement from Zomato to its customers read.

Last year in August the company announced that it had crossed one million food orders; while its competitor – Swiggy crossed the one million mark last April.

“The journey from one million orders to two million orders was a hard one, and we learnt a lot about what matters and what doesn’t,” Zomato said in a blog post on Thursday.

However, Zomato’s average food order value was Rs 430 for India and nearly 62 Dirham for UAE.

In August last year, the average food order value on Zomato was Rs 480 while that of Swiggy was Rs 340.

The company further added that its month-on-month growth from February was over 23%.

“Zomato has also become the largest food ordering player in India and UAE. We are also now the largest food discovery platform in 13 countries outside of India,” the company said.

The startup founded by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah in 2008 started its online food ordering services in the summer of 2015.

The company said that it had increased the restaurant supply available on Zomato from 12,000 to 18,000 and added, “Average commission rates of nearly 8.5% (for restaurant-delivered orders).”

“Online food ordering contributes nearly 20% revenue to our overall topline,” Zomato added.
