Price for a kilogram (kg) of tomatoes may have crossed Rs 100 in certain parts of India but fret not, online grocery websites like Grofers, ZopNow and Bigbasket are selling tomatoes, potatoes and pulses at a steep 50% discount!
At BigBasket, Grofers and ZopNow, prices of tomatoes are Rs 55, 56 and 84 respectively.
Online prices of potatoes were seen at Rs 26, on BigBasket and Rs 21 on Grofers and ZopNow.
Urad dal which is selling at Rs 275 per kg at market price is being sold at Rs 199 per kg on BigBasket.
How is a 50% discount in online retailing possible you ask?
Most of these ecommerce companies have direct tie-ups with farmers.
Thus, they are able to buy vegetables and pulses without the assistance of the middle man.
By eliminating the middle man’s commissions completely, the farmer, the retailer and the customer seem to be happy.
