Amazon, Indian Railways in talks to broadcast ‘Prime’ content in Shatabdis, Rajdhanis
E-commerce company, Amazon India said that it was in talks with Indian railways for the distribution of Amazon Prime's content in premium trains such as Shatabdi, Rajdhani and Duronto, a report by The Economic Times said on Wednesday.
The report said that executives from Amazon Prime had held three or four meetings with the railway officials and the two parties were expected to finalise details of a possible deal in the coming weeks.
“They have proposed to distribute the Amazon Prime content in our premium trains through local Wi-Fi,” the report quoted a senior Railway official.
Commenting on the set up of this plan, the railways said that a distribution box would be installed inside coaches which would be updated regularly so that passengers could consume content on their own devices.
Earlier this month, the railways announced that it will be providing media rights for the branding of its trains to generate revenues of up to Rs 2,000 crore. Companies would be able to use the entire train, both inside and outside, and stations on a long-term basis to advertise for their brands.
