Amazon India records 160% year-on-year growth rate in seller base in 2016
Amazon announced on Thursday of recording 160% year-on-year (y-o-y) rise in its India seller base growth rate in 2016.
Through its innovations, technology support and seller-centric services, the company's Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service till date has attracted over 140,000 sellers across the country to its marketplace last year.

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service, which helps sellers to increase their online sales by giving them access to its world-class fulfillment resources, has delivered more than two billion items for sellers worldwide last year.
The US-based e-commerce company is keen on innovating its selling services in the country.
“...We have been instrumental in transforming the lives of thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who sell on our platform. Expansion of our seller services offerings and focus on seller enablement and seller capability building initiatives to enable more and more sellers to benefit from the digital economy and succeed online, was our core focus in 2016. We will continue to strive to make selling on Amazon synonymous to selling in India,” Amazon India director and GM-seller services Gopal Pillai, said in a press release.
According to the company, during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, Indian sellers witnessed over 50% growth in gross merchandise sold (GMS) last year as compared to the year before.
About 50% of Indian sellers who participated in Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales hailed from tier-II cities like Jaipur, Udaipur, Agra, Surat, among others, it said.
