Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) runs the EPF scheme. In the scheme, the employee with at least Rs 15,000 monthly basic salary can start an EPF account, where they need to make a minimum contribution of Rs 1,800. The maximum EPF contribution is 12 per cent of the EPF account holder's basic salary and dearness allowance (DA).

In case of retirement (or at 58 years of age), on completion of 10 years of service, unemployment of 2 months, or death before the specified retirement age, one can withdraw the EPF amount.
