Avoid these 5 mistakes to prevent UPI fraud
If you see any suspicious activity on your UPI account, such as unauthorised transactions or changes to your account information, report it to your bank or the UPI app provider immediately.
Using Unified Payments Interface (UPI) was launched in 2016 and has changed the way we used to make payments. It has played a very important part in adopting cashless transactions. It is quite easy to use and this has contributed towards the unprecedented surge in UPI payments. However, it is very important to stay vigilant to avoid fraud and protect your financial information.
Here we going to tell you five common mistakes to avoid that will help prevent UPI fraud.
1. Use a strong UPI PIN
Your UPI PIN is like your ATM PIN, so it's important to choose a strong one that is not easily guessable. According to Anup Nayar, CEO - Domestic at In-Solutions Global Ltd, a good PIN should be at least six digits long and include a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
2. Always verify details of the recipient
Before initiating a UPI transaction, try to verify the recipient's details in the PSP UPI app. Nayar said that one must make sure the entered UPI handle or the mobile number belongs to the person you are sending the money.

3. Be careful about the links you click on, especially in emails and messages
Fraudsters often send phishing emails and SMS messages that contain links to fake websites. These websites may look like they are from your bank or the UPI app provider, but they are actually designed to steal your personal information. If you receive a link from someone you don't know, do not click on it. Instead, go directly to the website of the company in question and log in from there.
4. Do not download apps from unknown sources
Only download apps from reputable sources like the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Apps from unknown sources may contain malware that can steal your personal information.
5. Report any suspicious activity to your bank or the UPI app provider immediately
If you see any suspicious activity on your UPI account, such as unauthorised transactions or changes to your account information, report it to your bank or the UPI app provider immediately. They will be able to investigate the activity and take steps to protect your account.
