As per the Income Tax department's instructions, linking of Aadhaar card with the PAN is mandatory for filing income tax returns (ITR) for the assessment year 2019-20. The last date of linking of Aadhaar number with PAN has been extended to September 30th, 2019.  The IT returns which were filed prior to April 1st, 2019, without quoting Aadhaar number manually or electronically would be taken for processing without causing any disqualification or any effect for non-quoting of Aadhaar as per provision of section 139AA of the Income Tax Act.

However, it is mandatory to quote Aadhaar number at the time of filing the income tax return as required under section 139AA (1)(ii) unless specifically exempted as per any notification issued under sub-section (3) of section 139AA of the Income Tax Act. If you have still not linked your Aadhaar with PAN, here are two quick ways to do it easily:

1. Online mode:

Step 1: The first step is to visit the official websites of the Income Tax Department i.e NSDL or UTIITSL websites and log in using your details.

Step 2: Now after logging in, select 'Linking Aadhaar' which will open another window where you will get a prompt notification to link your PAN card with Aadhaar card

Step 3: Now confirm all the information like name, date of birth and gender as per the information on your Aadhaar card.

Step 4: Finally submit your Aadhaar card number and enter the captcha code shown on screen.

Step 5: Now to link the Aadhaar and PAN, click on the 'Link Aadhaar' to finish the process.

2. SMS mode:

Step 1. The first step is to type UIDPAN <12-digit Aadhaar number><10-digit PAN> on your phone to form an SMS.

Step 2. Now send the SMS to 567678 from the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar card and get your Aadhaar linked with PAN.

However, one should note that in case a minor mismatch between PAN and Aadhaar, an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number with Aadhaar. If a name on Aadhaar is different from the name in PAN database, the linkage process may not be completed.
