Ahead of the festivals of Dussehra and Diwali, the State bank of India had last month sweetened mood of crores of its customers by increasing the upper cap on the amount one could deposit in a non-home branch. India's largest public lender had informed the decision in a tweet, saying, "Good news SBI customers! Now, the upper cap for #depositing #cash at a non-home #branch has been updated."
Home branch is the branch where a customer has opened his/her bank account. All other branches are considered non-home branches. Earlier, the maximum amount one could deposit in the non-home branch was Rs 25,000. The bank has now removed the limit on the amount that can be deposited in a non-home branch.
SBI charges Rs 50 (plus GST) per transaction on cash deposits at non-home branches, as per official website of the bank.
