The number of ATM/Debit card users are on a rise. The banks have issued as many as 7 crore debit cards between April 2018 to January 2019. By the end of January, the banks have had issued over 93 crore debit cards. One of the leading banks in the debit card issuance is State Bank of India. The largest public sector bank has issued over 27.83 lakh debit card with a market share of 32.3% as of March 2018. If you are an SBI customer, you must have received a message that the bank has debited certain charge from your account in the name of annual maintenance charges for the debit card. The charges are different for different cards.

The SBI debit cards are classified into four categories based on their AMC: 

1. Classic Debit Card
2. Silver/Global /Yuva /Gold Debit Card
3. Platinum Debit Card
4. Pride/Premium Business Debit Card

However, if you hold a salary account with the SBI, no annual maintenance charges will be deducted from your account.

On the other hand, if you have lost your debit card or want to get it replaced due to any reason (except expiry or migration to EMV chip card), you will be charged Rs 300 plus GST for the same.

There is another deduction that you may notice in your passbook or bank account statement. This is for SMS services offered to you by the bank. SBI Debit Card holders who maintain an average quarterly balance of Rs 25,000 and below during the quarter are charged Rs 15 (including GST) for every quarter. Again, the salary account holders are exempted from this as well.
