SBI bank account holder? ALERT! 24 hours to go, you will not be able to do online, mobile banking
If SBI account holders/customers fail to register their mobile number with the account, only mobile banking and internet banking will be dysfunctional. All the other facilities will remain intact and there would be no deactivation of account number.
The State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest public sector bank by asset size and customer base, is making 2 massive changes from tomorrow that may hit a lot of SBI account holders. Those who have SBI account should know that the bank, from December 1, 2018, will stop your internet banking and mobile banking services if you have so far not registered your mobile numbers with respective bank accounts.
Following this SBI move, SBI account holders won’t be able to do any sort transactions as that would require an OTP (one time password). SBI's official statement had earlier stated, "As per RBI advisory, it is mandatory to register your mobile number to avail internet banking services. Please register your mobile number by 30.11.2018, failing which your internet banking access will be deactivated/blocked w.e.f from 01.12.2018."
RBI had directed all the banks to provide easy registration for mobile banking services to the customers. The RBI statement had said, “System put in place by banks for registration of customers for mobile banking for new as well as existing account holders (where mobile number is either registered with the bank or is not available), is varied across banks."
For the SBI account holders/customers, today is the last day to visit the nearest SBI branch to get their mobile number registered with their account if they wish to continue using SBI mobile banking and net banking.
Notably, if SBI account holders/customers fail to register their mobile number with the account, only mobile banking and internet banking will be dysfunctional. All the other facilities will remain intact and there would be no deactivation of account number.
The SBI is also closing its mobile wallet-SBI Buddy, from November 30, 2018. It has earlier stated that the wallet with zero balance has already been closed. But it has so far not made it clear what will happen to the amount left in that wallet. As many as 12 million users will be affected following the closure of this app.
Notably, the SBI's new app Yono has been launched to replace SBI Buddy.
