The interest earned is tax-free up to Rs 10,000 per year. The department offers digital services to customers to access their accounts. Customers can check account balance, mini statement, transfer funds and more. Here, we will tell you 6 ways to check your post office account balance both online and offline:
1. E-passbook facility
The government started the e-passbook facility in 2022 for the Post Office savings account. To avail the benefit of this facility, one has to follow the following steps:
Step 1: Visit the post office website https://www.indiapost.gov.in/vas/Pages/IndiaPostHome.aspx
Step 2: Click on post office saving schemes
Step 3: Select e-passbook
Step 4: Login with mobile number
Step5: Check the balance

2. SMS
To check balance through SMS, one has to first register. To register, type ‘register’ and send it to ‘7738062873’ from the mobile number registered with the Post Office savings or current account.
After registration, one can check their account balance by typing ‘balance’ and sending it to 7738062873. To check mini statements, type ‘mini’ and send to 7738062873.
3. Missed call service
To register for missed call banking service, dial ‘8424054994’ from the mobile number linked with the account. Once the mobile number is registered, one can give a missed call on ‘8424054994’ to get information about the mini statement and account balance.
4. IPPB Mobile app
To get information through the app follow the below steps:
Step 1: Download the IPPB Mobile App
Step 2: Enter account number and customer ID
Step 3: An OTP will be generated on the bank account linked mobile number for verification
Step 4: Enter the OTP and get registered
Step 5: Set the MPIN by login to the app. One can then check the account balance on the app
5. Phone Banking
Dial 155299 (toll-free) from the mobile number linked to the account and follow the IVRS command. Choose the language and select savings account details. Then select the 'get balance option' to check the account balance.
6. Online Banking
Step 1: Visit the official website of Post Office
Step 2: Create an account
Step 3: User ID and password will be generated.
Step 4: Login to DoP e-Banking Portal and enter User ID and password
Step 5: Enter the registered mobile number, an OTP will be sent to the number
Step 6: Enter OTP to verify
Step 7: Choose an account option and one can check the balance in your account.
