To fulfill this goal, the central government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to help the citizens of the country to own a house in the country. The initiative was launched on June 25, 2015, by PM Narendra Modi.
Under the PMAY-U scheme, the central government has approved a proposal to build 1.12 crore houses for all eligible families or beneficiaries.
"The Mission provides Central Assistance to implementing agencies through States/Union Territories (UTs) and Central Nodal Agencies (CNAs) for providing houses to all eligible families/ beneficiaries against the validated demand for houses for about 1.12 cr. PMAY(U) has made a mandatory provision for the female head of the family to be the owner or co-owner of the house under this Mission," the official website said.

PM Awas Yojana: How to check name on list?
Step 1: Visit the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana's official website - pmaymis.gov.in.
Step 2: Select the 'Search Beneficiary' tab available on the navigation bar. There will be a drop-down menu.
Step 3: Choose the 'Search by Name' option from the menu.
Step 4: Enter the name and click on 'Search'.
Note: Applicants will gain access to the PMAY-Urban list after pressing 'Search'. Search for the names you have chosen, as well as any other relevant information.
