PAN-Aadhaar linking: Today is the last day of Aadhaar-PAN linking. However, you don't need to worry. You may have already completed this if you did any of the three activities: a) If you ever quoted Aadhaar in you PAN application form for getting a new PAN. b) If you filled Aadhaar in Income Tax return. c) If you quoted Aadhaar in change request for reprinting PAN card. In one of the several ads prompting taxpayers to seed PAN with Aadhaar, the Income Tax department says, "Aadhaar can be seeded into PAN database by quoting Aadhaat in PAN application form for new PAN allotment or by quoting Aadhaar in Change Request Form used for reprint of PAN card."

"Aadhaar will also be seeded with PAN when it is filled in Income Tax Return," it adds.

What to do when names in Aadhaar and PAN do not match

The Income Tax department says, "In case where Aadhaar name is completely different from name in PAN database then the linkage may fail and the PAN holder has to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database or visit personally to designated PAN application centre of NSDL eGov or UTITSL for Biometric Aadhaar authentication."

Date of start of Biometric authentication facility and list of designated PAN centres can be seen at www.tin-nsdl.com and www.utiitsl.com
