Odisha Chief Minister disburses Rs 5,000 to 35 lakh women under Subhadra Yojana
Odisha's Subhadra Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Modi, provides Rs 5,000 to empower women financially. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlights the government's commitment to women's welfare and social justice.
On Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the disbursement of Rs 5,000 each to over 35 lakh women as the first instalment under the state’s flagship Subhadra Yojana. The event took place at Chhaupadia, where Majhi, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, distributed a total of Rs 1,750 crore directly into the beneficiaries' bank accounts.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, the Subhadra Yojana aims to empower women financially. On its inaugural day, the scheme successfully transferred the first instalment of Rs 5,000 to approximately 25.11 lakh beneficiaries.
Addressing attendees, Majhi emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is delivering on its promises to the people of Odisha. He noted that the Subhadra Yojana was a significant commitment made in the BJP’s election manifesto for women’s empowerment.
“Today, more than 35 lakh beneficiaries were given the first instalment payment in the second phase disbursement under the Subhadra Yojana,” Majhi stated. So far, around 60 lakh women have benefited from the initiative, with 1.20 crore women registered under the scheme.
The chief minister further described the Subhadra Yojana as the largest scheme ever implemented in Odisha, covering over 1 crore women. Each beneficiary is set to receive a total of Rs 10,000 per year in two instalments—one on Rakhi Purnima and the other on International Women’s Day (March 8)—over a period of five years, totaling Rs 50,000.
Women who were unable to access funds during the first phase due to various reasons were included in this second phase. Those who submitted their applications by October 7 received their payments on Wednesday. The scheme is planned for implementation over the financial years 2024-25 to 2028-29, with a significant outlay of Rs 55,825 crore allocated by the state government.
