NPS: A step-by-step guide to check your National Saving Scheme account balance sitting at home
The National Pension Scheme was launched by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority in 2004 to help individuals make minimal annual contributions to their NPS accounts for future funds.
One of the popular retirement savings schemes for those looking forward to making plans for receiving a regular source of payment even after moving away from active work in The National Pension System. The NPS was launched by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority in 2004. It helps individuals to make minimal annual contributions to their NPS accounts for future funds. Anyone between the age of 18 and 60 can open an NPS account and start saving.
The accumulated corpus which is to be withdrawn post-retirement will depend on two factors – contributions made toward the NPS account and the income generated from investment in annuities.
The accumulated balance in the NPS accounts while a Statement of Transaction (SOT) is usually printed and dispatched to the investors' registered address on an annual basis. One can also check their balance online any time by visiting through different modes.

How to check the NPS account balance?
Through the NSDL portal:
1. Go to the official portal of the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) https://nsdl.co.in/
2. Login by using your Permanent Retirement Allotment Number (PRAN) as the user ID, account password, and captcha code.
3. After logging in, click on the option of 'Holding Statement' under the 'Transaction Statement' section.
3. The account balance will be displayed on the screen.
Through the NSDL mobile application
One can download the NSDL mobile application from a link provided on the official website.
1. On the app, follow the same steps to login to your NPS account.
2. The total NPS holding value will be visible on the screen along with the investor's holdings in their Tier I and Tier II accounts.
Through the UMANG App
NPS services can be also availed from the e-government UMANG application.
1. Download and UMANG application and search for NPS services.
2. Choose the NPS option and select your relevant CRA.
3. Next, select the 'Current Holding' option and enter your PRAN and password to login.
4. After logging in, the relevant account information will be accessible to the user.
Through SMS
One of the easiest ways to view the NPS account balance is via SMS.
1. Give a missed call from your NPS-registered mobile number to 9212993399.
2. Following this, an SMS will be received on the same number containing information about your NPS account balance.
