New Income Tax Website: DECODED, EXPLAINED! Expert reveals what all incometax.gov.in comes loaded with

Filing your income tax returns have been made much easier now! All thanks to the new Income Tax portal which is LIVE NOW. It is not only easier now to file your returns quickly but also to get refund in a quick manner. The new portal is much more modernised. It will now be possible to file your returns through your mobile phones as well. Tax Expert Sunil Garg speaks to Zee Business’ Swati Raina on this.  

The new web address is www.incometax.gov.in. Tax expert Garg said that the income tax website in its new form has a new web address, to begin with. The old website address was www.incometaxindia.efiling.gov.in. He said that the new website is loaded with features and the best part is that income tax return could be filed on it absolutely “free”.

The income tax payer will not have to go from pillar-to-post to file his returns. You will be able to make payments through UPI, credit card and from any bank, he said.

Another important feature will be the customer care service which will be 24 X7, as has been indicated by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The service is likely to start soon, he said.

How will income tax return filing become easy?  

The CBDT has given an inbuilt user-friendly software which will aid the taxpayers, he said. A simple entering of inputs, based on the questions asked on the portal will give your tax calculations and also income tax returns, he further said. The software will tell the users what ITR form, they are required to fill. It has already launched ITR 1 and ITR form, Garg said.

He said that you will not require a CA t do the job for you with this new portal getting live now.

Even if one still needs assistance, he or she can call on the customer care number. This software will be available both online and off-line, he further said.

Processing of Returns
Garg said that as soon as the taxpayer will file his returns, the Annual Information Report (AIR) available with the tax department will be matched by it and the taxpayer will be alerted in case of anomalies. If everything is ok, then the returns will be refunded immediately into your accounts.

You are likely to have your refund within 24-48 hours by the end of this year or by next year, he further said.
